Mahabubnagar: Former Minister P Shankar Rao kept his word of building a temple for AICC chief Sonia Gandhi by performing the ‘Bhumi Puja’ along with the family members on a nine-acre site at Nandigama, in Kothur mandal, on Monday.
While talking to press persons, Rao said he would complete the construction work in six months. Describing Sonia as a ‘devatha’ (goddess), as desired by the people in the region, he declared the resolve to put up the temple, driven by firm determination to complete the task. Rao accused the Seemandhra Ministers and party leaders of carrying on a ‘smear campaign’ against Sonia and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
He appealed to them to stop it. The former minister expressed confidence of the Congress gaining strength in Seemandhra, where it had a vote bank of 34.48 per cent. The party would emerge victorious in the ensuing elections in the tickets were given to ‘clean’ persons, he quipped.
