Karimnagar: A local court on Wednesday granted bail to Basireddy Vinay Kumar Reddy, grandson of the former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister T Anjaiah, in a dowry harassment case filed by his wife Ramyashree.
Reddy surrendered before Additional Judicial Magistrate here on Tuesday and moved the bail application. Magistrate Azhar Hussain today granted him bail on a bond of Rs 5,000 with two sureties. According to victim’s family members and police, B Ramyasree hailing from Karimnagar married to Anjaiah’s daughter’s son Vinay Kumar Reddy about five and half years ago.
At the time of marriage, they alleged that about Rs 30 lakh in cash, 40 tolas of gold, 5 kg silver besides four acre land were given as dowry. But, Ramyasree had been harassed by Vinay for more. And last year, following pressure for more dowry from Vinay, Ramyasree’s parents gave Rs 10 lakh cash additionally, they claim.
Unable to bear the harassment, Ramyasree filed a complaint in June this year. Accordingly, a case was registered against Vinay, grandmother Manemma (MLA), in-laws and eight other family members.
Victim’s parents alleged that their daughter had been tortured for extra dowry by Vinay’s family members for several months. Holding Manemma responsible for the harassment, they demanded severe punishment for all the accused.
