Hyderabad: Amidst tight security, the ‘Maha dharna’ protest called by the Andhra Pradesh Non-Gazetted Officers’ (APNGOs) Association against the draft AP Reorganisation Bill-2013 took place at Indira Park on Wednesday. Thousands of district-level officers, gazetted officers and political leaders enthusiastically took part in the protest programme raising slogans of ‘Jai Samaikyandhra’.

Seemandhra ministers Ganta Sreenivasa Rao and Erasu Pratap Reddy and MPs Lagadapati Rajagopal and Vundavalli Arun Kumar, TDP leaders such as Sujana Chowdary and KE Krishnamurthy attended the dharna. While addressing the gathering, APNGOs Association president P Ashok Babu said the common capital mentioned in the draft T Bill would make the State a kingdom without the king. If Hyderabad became a joint capital for Telangana and Seemandhra regions, a Delhi kind of situation, which was now being questioned, would prevail in Hyderabad, he added.

Congress MP Lagadapati Rajagopal spoke in a high-spirited fashion and even uttered film dialogues. He indirectly targeted YSRCP as none of its MLAs attended the protest programme. Expressing strong objection to the division, Congress MP from Rajahmundry Vundavalli Arun Kumar opined that the debate on Telangana Bill was crucial and the President would send it to the Supreme Court if the Bill was rejected in the Assembly. He said if bifurcation took place the Telangana region would be most affected.
