Hyderabad: Two daily-wage workers were buried alive when a wall collapsed on them at a demolition site at Tagari Naka under Hussainialam police station limits here on Thursday evening. The workers were engaged in demolishing a building when the wall caved in, police said.

According to police, the incident took place around 4 pm when Ramu, 20, a resident of Ashok Nagar and Suresh, 26, of Ibrahimpatnam, were demolishing a portion of the building. Under its impact an adjacent wall collapsed leaving them trapped under the rubble.

The 48-year-old residential building, ‘Nanda Niketan’ was being pulled down by workers engaged by the house owner, Punditji, by hiring a labour contractor, Sai Prasad, police said.

“Around 10 people were working at the site when the wall collapsed. Ramu and Suresh, who were trapped under the rubble, might have died of suffocation,” said Hussainalam SI Srinivasalu.

The police rushed to the spot and shifted the bodies to Osmania Hospital for autopsy.

Cases of negligence have been registered against the house owner and labour contractor under Section 304 A (causing death by negligence).
