Lagadapati justifies, regrets Pepper spray episode. He also said that he was ashamed of the unprecedented incidents in Parliament yesterday: "We all regret, definitely regret what happened yesterday. All of us feel ashamed about what happened in the Parliament yesterday... but we need to understand who is responsible for this," said Lagadapati, indirectly blaming the Congress High command.
Congress MP Lagadapati Rajagopal whose behaviour in Parliament went on to become a talking point in political circles across the country, has clarified on his act. Although he did admit his mistake on national television, he remained unfazed about it and put the blame on Congress to have pushed him to such extremes.
Speaking to a national media, Congress MP Lagadapati said that he is not proud of his 'Pepper spray' episode, but justified his act saying he was acting in self-defence.
Under the direction of Congress High Command, 100 Parliamentarians tried to attack him and for self defence he used pepper spray, he said.
He went to help his colleague who was being attacked by other MPs and unfortunately he was attacked, he added.
That unfortunate incident should not have happened, he felt.
Let's take a look at the views of Telangana Congress leaders on Lagadapati's act
Lagadapati's 'pepper spray' episode is drawing flack from all corners of the country. This is with the exception of Seemandhra region where he has turned a hero overnight and also being compared to Bhaghat Singh in the advertisements aired by some news channels.
Meanwhile, leaders from Telangana are busy holding press meets to slam Lagadapati's act. Labour minister Danam Nagender too has joined the list.
Speaking to the media in Hyderabad, Danam said Lagadapati was behaving like a buffoon and Congress party should not give tickets to such leaders.
"Congress party has created a problem by giving tickets to leaders like Lagadapati who has resorted to opportunist politics," he opined.
The Vijayawada MP has been trying to tame the Congress party by making a mockery of the democracy, he added.
Lagadapati and other leaders are planning to float their own party which is why they are harming the reputation of the Congress party, Danam asserted.
Danam also took potshots at Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy saying his behavior is also not good and his statements referring to Prime minister Manmohan Singh is wrong.
"We will request the Speaker to take strict action against Lagadapati for attacking Parliamentarians," he asserted.
Nalgonda MP Gutta Sukhender Reddy came down heavily on Lagadapati for attacking the MPs by using pepper spray.
Speaking to the media after participating in the Telangana Congress MPs' meeting at Union Minister Sarve Satyanarayana residence, Gutta said that Chandrababu Naidu has sent thieves to the Parliament.
Lagadapati used pepper spray as if he was going to kill all the MPs in the Parliament, he added.
He also questioned Chandrababu as to why he did not condemn TDP MP Modugula Venugopal Reddy, who brought a knife to the Parliament?
He also added that the BJP which has claimed that the party is committed to Telangana, is changing its stands. If BJP is really committed to the Telangana cause, it should support the Telangana Bill in the ongoing Parliament sessions and prove its trust.
The saffron party should not fall into the trap of Jagan and Chandrababu.
