Hyderabad: An interactive session themed ‘Vision for better India, Ideas Exchange with Venkaiah Naidu’ evoked tremendous response with experts from diverse fields giving their inputs on how to shape the nation’s economy to ensure allround prosperity.
Achievers from Information Technology, hardware, manufacturing, education, medicine and agriculture attended in large numbers in the meeting that was held in a city hotel on Sunday morning.
Noted industrialist D V Manohar, Managing Director of Medwin Hospitals Dr Ramesh Babu and president of Foundation for Futuristic Cities Karuna Gopal, shared their experience and gave suggestions to senior BJP leader M Venkaiah Naidu and urged him to incorporate the inputs after studying their feasibility in the BJP Vision Document for the nation.
Manohar said that there was as much a need for SWOT (Strength, Opportunities, Weakness and Threat) analysis as was tapping the potential of the treasure trove called KG Basin. He called upon Venkaiah Naidu to ensure that 50 per cent of gas is allotted to the State besides 50 per cent of the royalty going into its coffers.
Karuna Gopal underscored the importance of urban transformation and the compelling need to embrace urbanisation by way of heavy investments in procuring state-of-the-art infrastructure. She cautioned that this should not mean that the interests of rural and semi-urban requirements would be compromised.
Dr Ramesh Babu spoke about the need for reforms in health care. He said that basic medical care was still a far cry for people living in villages and it should be addressed immediately. Infotech chairman BVR Mohan Reddy said that innovation, technology, incubation and product development were the need of the hour to sustain the growth of IT amidst decrease in linearity.
Prof Dinesh Rao of BITS said that there was a need to double the investment in education to 6 per cent of GDP. He also called for introduction of entrepreneurship courses at the school level apart from research based learning. Ajit Rangnekar, dean ISB, stated that education had become a national challenge. There was a serious shortage of skilled manpower; there was also the need for a government that works.
Noted agricultural activist Narendranath made a startling revelation that nearly 64 per cent of the farmers were ready to move away from farming. This stemmed from the fact that although the Swaminathan Committee had recommended strident reforms almost 90 months, they had been nonstarters thereby leaving the farming community in the lurch.
Experts like JA Choudary, Y Harish, Upender Rao, Burgula Sivaramakrishna also gave their suggestions.
Making note of the opinions, Venkaiah Naidu said, “I will put across all your suggestions to the BJP central command, which will take stock of the same and consider them on merit. Our party hopes to focus on nationbuilding with thrust on better governance, people’s participation and wealth creation. Your opinions as equal stakeholders will be a priority area for us.”
