Andhra Pradesh Engineer Kidnapped in Assam Ongole: Dandamuri Nagamalleswara Rao, 48, a resident of Koonamnenivaripalem in Chimakurti mandal in Prakasam district, was abducted by four armed persons at Kalachand, about 60 km from Haflong, in Assam , on June 17. He was working with a private firm Vashishta Constructions as an engineer in Assam.

The abductors, reportedly Inter failed students, telephoned Rao’s manager Satyanarayana and demanded Rs 6 crore as ransom. Representatives of the firm conveyed the information to his brother residing in Guntur. As their efforts to trace Rao failed, the representatives informed Assam police. Rao’s family members also met the Haflong SP on Saturday.

The Haflong SP, who visited the crime spot, said: “Rao was overseeing a stone crusher unit. The reason for abduction is extortion. Police are conducting search operations." "The personnel of the Assam Police and Army are conducting a joint operation to rescue Rao. We have already detained one person and hope to get some definite clues soon," Dima Hasao SP Bedanta M Rajkhowa told PTI. Cops are trying to get in touch with the kidnappers through their parents, Rao’s relative Brahmaiah told The Hans India.

On learning about the incident, AP Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu instructed Chief Secretary IYR Krishna Rao to coordinate with Assam authorities for the release of Rao. The CS spoke to Assam Chief Secretary and DGP and sought their help in tracing and rescuing Rao.
