Hyderabad: Telugu Desam government ruled out formation of a separate tribal district in the State which was to be named after the freedom fighter Alluri Sitaramaraju, thus putting the rumours to rest along with the assurance given to the people by none other than the Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu. The Chief Minister while addressing Adivasis during the World Indigenous Day, held at Visakhapatnam, announced that a separate Tribal district would be formed with Rampachodavaram as its headquarters.

“The cabinet ruled out formation of a separate Adivasi district,” said Minister for IT Palle Raghunadha Reddy while briefing the media on cabinet proceedings on Monday evening. He refused to answer further questions on this issue. Jangareddygudem, Koyyalagudem, Gopalapuram and T Narsapur in West Godavari district and Yeleswaram, Srunkhavaram, Pedamallavaram, Gokavaram and Kota Nanduru in East Godavari district from the plains were under consideration for merger with the proposed new tribal district.

However, TDP leaders from Jangareddygudem asked Minister for Women and Child Welfare Peethala Sujatha to stall the move. Even non-tribal leaders from Koyyalagudem, Gopalapuram and Jangareddygudem opposed merger of their areas.
