At a review meeting held with the irrigation officials, Naidu asked them to identify, speed up and find the obstacles coming in the way of the pending irrigation projects. The State has 54 irrigation projects under construction.


He said a State Irrigation Advisory Committee would be set up to study water scarcity in various mandals in the State located under the basins of Krishna, Godavari, Penna, Vamsadara and Nagavalli rivers and develop a plan to provide water to these mandals.


The officials informed Naidu that Andhra Pradesh was currently receiving 1,500 tmc of inflows. With AP having over 24 lakh lakes and other small water bodies, the Chief Minister has also asked officials to draw a plan to utilise water from these sources and divert them to drought-hit areas.


Minister for major irrigation Devineni Umamaheshwar Rao, Irrigation advisor PK Agarwal and senior officials were also present.
