Guntur/Kakinada/Srikakulam/ Hyderabad: The Commissioner of Disaster Management, Hyderabad, while alerting the coastal Andhra Pradesh districts in view of ‘Hudhud’ which is to cross the coast on October 12, warned fishermen on Thursday against venturing into the sea. He advised the district administration to open control rooms at mandal level and ensure availability of essential commodities, including food grains, kerosene and edible oils. He wanted officials to keep ready cyclone shelters and stocking of adequate quantities of drugs and emergency supply of drinking water and veterinary medicines. East Godavari Collector Neethu Prasad said here on t Thursday that the cyclone was likely to have impact in the district, which lies next to Visakhapatnam, where ‘Hudhud’ is likely to cross the coast.

She told the media that the administration had alerted officials to shift people to safer place. A control room has been set up in the Collectorate here. Prasad participated in the video conference on the cyclone with Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu. The Collector warned fishermen not to go for fishing, saying that those who had already gone to the sea should come back immediately.

She said that the administration had kept ready essential commodities to be supplied to the needy people. Reviews were being held in the district at all levels to place officials on alert. Two National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams were being sent to Tuni and Amalapuram in the district.

In Srikakulam, Collector Gourav Uppal told the media that two NDRF teams of 90 members were ready in the district. A control room has been set up in the Collectorate. He said officials have been told to keep essential commodities reach in 11 coastal mandals. Meanwhile, Minister K Atchennaidu directed the district officials to be alert in view of the cyclone threat. He held a review meeting with officials in the ZP hall. Naidu asked officials to ensure that there was no loss of either property or lives. Collector Uppal and SP Khan attended.

In a related development, the tour of CM Naidu in Srikakulam district on October 10 has been postponed by a week because of the cyclone, officials said.

No need to panic
Visakhapatnam: MV Seshagiri Babu, Chairman and Managing Director of Andhra Pradesh Eastern Power Distribution Company Limited (APEPDCL), appealed to the public not to panic about the severe cyclonic storm that may hit the coastal districts of Andhra Pradesh.

The authorities of the APEPDCL are gearing up to face any eventuality and taken steps to prevent damage. The staff and officials have taken special measures to meet emergency at ground level. Special call centers are established in all APEPDCL jurisdiction circles of Srikakulam, Vizianigaram, Visakhapatnam, East and West Godavari districts. The centers will be working round-the-clock and its services are available to all the public.
