Nellore: The severe cyclonic storm Hudhud is causing high tidal surge. The sea has surged during the last 24 hours and sea level has risen by 100 metres at Allur coast. Under its impact, Iskapalliplaem, Pathaplaem, Kothapatnam and Thativellipalem are hit by tidal waves.

Streetlight poles along the coastline were uprooted. Prawn tanks near Iskapallipalem were flooded. Power lines at several places have been snapped. Aqua farmers are apprehending damage to their tanks if the sea level continues to rise.

The Fishing Land Bhavan near Iskapallipalem has collapsed under the impact of high winds. The compound wall of the nearby Lighthouse has been partially damaged. Following a change in the weather conditions since Friday cold winds have been blowing. There were showers in some areas. Fishermen are worried as they will lose their livelihood. Those in the Buckingham canal area have moved their boats closer to the coast.

Officials estimate that the cyclone impact will be felt more in Kavali, Muthukur, Chillakur, Kota, Vakadu and Tada mandals.
