Sreedharan Identifies Metro Corridors in Visakhapatnam. Sreedharan refused to reveal these details before leaving the city but said he would submit his technical report, a preparatory exercise of Detailed project Report, to the government.

Visakhapatnam: E Sreedharan, Advisor to Government of Andhra Pradesh on Metro Rail, identified some corridors where the first phase of Metro Rail would be taken up after the government approved the Detailed Project Report (DPR). He concluded his two-day visit to the city and left for New Delhi on Wednesday. Though he refused to divulge the details of his study, sources in Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) said he was particular in the stretch between Railway Station and Maddilapalem Junction, the city’s two busiest centres. The seven-km stretch would cover three shopping malls – Big Bazaar near Railway Station, Spencers close to Rama Talkies Junction and CMR Central located on the National Highway at Maddilapalem Junction. The route would pass through RTC Complex. “Like Singapore where the shopping malls built their own railway stations on the premises, Sreedharan wants that the malls in the city contributed to the building of the stations,” said an officer of GVMC.
Sreedharan refused to reveal these details before leaving the city but said he would submit his technical report, a preparatory exercise of Detailed project Report, to the government.
The GVMC had earlier proposed the Gajuwaka-NAD Junction, Gajuwaka-Railway Station, Hanumanthwaka-Tagarapuvalasa and Maddilapalem-NAD Junction corridors.
The Metro advisor was also considering the intensity of cyclones hitting the region frequently and designing the project accordingly.

The first phase of the Metro project would be completed in three years. Sreedharan and his expert team of advisors were likely to return to the city around this time next month.
