Anantapur: The district police on Friday arrested three employees of Sri Krishndevaraya University (SKU) working in the Finance and Accounts department for their alleged involvement in a Rs.3.1-crore bulk grants scam as part of which the amount has been diverted during the last six years. The scam came to light late.

The diversion has been proved in the investigation, Superintendent of Police Rajasekhar Babu said later. He told the media that the police had seized from the trio bank passbooks pertaining to 28 FDs involving Rs.1.36 crore, property worth Rs.77 lakh and jewellery valued at Rs.21 lakh.

Babu named the arrested persons as Superintendent Kondeti Sheshyya, senior assistant Gummadi Udaybhaskar Reddy and Kumara Krishnamurthy. Reddy, who was preparing the employees’ salary slips, allegedly diverted SKU funds using ‘benami’ names and pocketed the amounts. He forced the other two accused to join luring them with money.

The employees utilised the diverted amount for acquiring personal properties and self gain. The SP said the passbooks involving Rs.1.36 crore FDs bonds and Rs.16.9 lakh worth gold jewellery were seized from Reddy. From Sheshayya they confiscated two passbooks for Rs.91, 000 and from Krishnamurthy two passbooks for Rs.32,000 worth jewels.
