Guntur: The Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) would buy 1,100 new buses by March 2015, Transport Minister Siddha Raghava Rao has said. Addressing a press conference here on Thursday, he said 30 new Volvo buses would be acquired for the RTC in the coming two months.

The newly purchased vehicles would be allotted to Vijayawada and Visakhapatnam bus stations. The RTC city bus services would be introduced in Guntur city soon for the convenience of people. GPS gadgets, each costing Rs 75,000, would be fitted in 1,537 RTC buses to streamline the services and ensure that the buses strictly abide by the time schedule.

The main servers of the GPS would be set up in Guntur, Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam and Hyderabad. CCTV cameras would also be installed in the buses to ensure passenger safety in the wake of increase in terror threat, he said. Later, the Minister inspected roads in Nallapadu, Perecharla, Amaravathi and Thulluru.
