Ongole: Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has sought the cooperation of people and people’s representatives to make Andhra Pradesh “a model State.”
- Naidu says those guilty of taking bogus farm loans will be punished
- Instances of bogus borrowings come to light in Kadapa, Vizianagaram and Guntur districts
Participating in a Farmer Empowerment convention (Rytu Sadassu) at Kondepi village in Prakasam district on Monday, he urged people’s representatives, bureaucrats, industrialists, social organisations and NGOs to adopt villages and municipal wards and strive for their development. Balanced development in the State can be achieved within a short span of time, if the villages and municipal wards were adopted and basic infrastructure was provided, he said.
Speaking on the loan waiver scheme, Naidu said he would ensure that every eligible farmer gets the benefit. The TDP government came out with a practical solution to fulfil its election promise to waive farm loans, despite a severe financial crunch, in the larger interests of small and marginal farmers.
A CB-CID inquiry would be conducted into the irregularities that took place in lending farm loans in Vizianagaram, Kadapa and Guntur districts, he said. Reiterating his commitment to women’s empowerment, the Chief Minister said he would strengthen the DWCRA groups by allocating Rs 7,500 crore to them in the first phase.
He said the TDP government was determined to curb smuggling of red sanders in the State with an iron hand despite threats from the smugglers. Effective measures would be taken to preserve the rare plant species in the Seshachalam forests in Rayalaseema. Sand reaches in the State were allotted to DWCRA women groups as part of the new mining policy to rein in sand mafia and ensure that it is available to people at reasonable prices, he said.
Kondepi MLA Bala Veeranjaneya Swamy presided over the meeting. The Chief Minister handed over a cheque for Rs 376 crore to Transport Minister Siddha Raghava Rao towards implementation of loan waiver scheme and a cheque for Rs 100 crore to DWCRA women groups. Minister for Agriculture Prathipati Pulla Rao, Bapatla MP S Malyadri and others participated in the meeting.
Farm machinery distriburted
Later, he visited an exhibition set up on empowerment of farmers at Zilla Parishad High School in Kondepi. The Chief Minister distributed agriculture machinery to farmers groups on the occasion.
