Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Thursday directed the Irrigation officials to speed up the multipurpose Polavaram project works. Speaking after inspecting the project site, he promised to provide adequate relief and rehabilitation to the oustees. A lift irrigation scheme would be taken up to supply water to the neighbouring Krishna district.

Polavaram (West Godavari): Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Thursday directed the Irrigation officials to speed up the multipurpose Polavaram project works. Speaking after inspecting the project site, he promised to provide adequate relief and rehabilitation to the oustees. A lift irrigation scheme would be taken up to supply water to the neighbouring Krishna district. The surplus water of the Godavari flowing waste into the sea would be utilised for the purpose; it would not affect the interests of East and West Godavari districts.

The Chief Minister said focus would also be laid on supply of irrigation water to the upland areas in West Godavari. Additional officials would be deployed at the project site to speed up the work. He would review its progress by holding special monthly meetings.

Engineer-in-Chief M Venkateswara Rao explained the progress of work to Naidu in a power-point presentation in the project office. Irrigation Minister Devineni Umamaheswara Rao, MLAs M Srinivasa Rao (Polavaram), M Venkateswara Rao (Gopalapuram) and KS Jawahar (Kovvur), Collector Katamaneni Bhaskar, Joint Collector T Baburao Naidu, Superintending Engineer RV Ramesh Babu were present.
