Polavaram (West Godavari): The Congress party on Friday launched “one crore signature” campaign to exert pressure on the Union government to grant special category status to Andhra Pradesh. The Congress party criticised Centre for failing to implement the promised incorporated in the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act.

APCC president N Raghuveera Reddy, accompanied by former Union Minister Chiranjeevi and Rajya Sabha member K V P Ramachandra Rao, visited Polavaram to launch the signature campaign. Chiranjeevi was the first person to sign and Rajya Sabha member K V P Ramachandra Rao was the second persons to take part in the campaign.

Speaking on the occasion, APCC president N Raghuveera Reddy demanded that the Polavaram project should be completed by the year 2018. He also demanded that Central government earmark Rs 10,000 crore in the next budget. Public response to the meeting organised by the party was lukewarm.
