Animals get the privilege of hostels in AP

Two facilities will be set up soon in Andhra Pradesh for animals such as dogs, milch cows and buffaloes to enjoy the privilege of hostels. The facilities are to be set up in East Godavari District’s Rangapuram and Gandepalli villages.

The farmers who need to avail the facility have to register and pay a monthly maintenance for the animals to place in the hostels under the care of the SHG's of women. The similar animal maintenance facility has already worked in Rajasthan and Gujarat where animals are taken care of and are nourished. Rs 8 Lakh is to be released for the first phase of each unit and the hostel managed by SHG members will provide shelter, water, medical care and fodder to the animals.

H. Arun Kumar, the EG Collector said that the concept will result in a significant increase in milk production. To ensure remunerative price to farmers, preparations will be made for marketing milk products produced at the hostels while the Animal Husbandry Department would monitor the hostels on a regular basis.
