Hyderabad: More than 200 families attended cancer awareness camp organised by Rohit Memorial Trust (RMT) for migrants living under polluted Kancharpalem bridge in Ward 39. Earlier, the trust had donated blankets, rice and clothes to villagers of Rambili who were affected by the Hudhud cyclone. Similarly, food and essentials were provided to Jalaripeta and Bhimili villagers. The trust, which is planning to organise a breast cancer and cervical cancer awareness camp under the bridge, will soon set up a small medical unit in the area.

They have requested the government to build toilets in the area under the Swachh Bharat initiative. Dr Padmini Chengalroy, president, Girl Scouts-Vizag, retired principal of Air Force Public School Anandi Balasubramanian, social activist Gurmeet Kohli, eminent artist Dolly, Sandhya Gautam from California, Nikhil Oza and others attended. Dr Meenakshi Anantram, vice-president of the trust, announced a Gyan Lakshmi project of the Rohit Memorial Trust to supply sanitary napkins almost free of cost to poor girls and tribals.

Using unhygienic cloth is one of the main reasons for bad sanitary conditions leading to the rise of cervical cancers among young girls. Dr Anantram used this platform to counsel young girls living under the bridge. Donors who wish to be a part of this initiative may contact 0891 2551226.
