Hyderabad: While it is a common phenomenon for the Opposition members to stage walkout from the House, on Thursday, Andhra Pradesh government Chief Whip Nannapaneni Rajakumari in the State Legislative Council staged a walk out as she was refused mike. The incident happened during the short discussion on the revival of sick industries in the State. No sooner MLC PJ Chandrasekhar completed his lengthy talk, than the leader of the Opposition was given a chance to speak by Deputy Chairman SV Satish Reddy. Rajakumari vehemently opposed giving mike to leader of the Opposition.

The Chief Whip of the Council argued with the Chair that she was the number two in the list of speakers. She questioned the Chair how the leader of the Opposition was given the mike when her name was in the line. Satish Reddy rebuked the behaviour of Rajakumari in the House and stated that he went as per the rule book. The Deputy Chairman reminded her that the leader of the Opposition would be given priority. He asked her go through the rule book. Not paying heed to the Chair, the Council Chief Whip argued that she be given chance to speak.

Taking objections to her behaviour , Congress MLC Chengal Rayudu told Rajakumari not to dictate terms to the Chair. Following intervention of Rayudu, a heated argument kicked off between the Chief Whip and the Opposition members. Rayudu is said to have told Nannapaneni to hold her tongue. An impulsive Rajakumari trooped into the well demanding Chengal Rayudu to withdraw his words.

Satish Reddy took strong objections to the behaviour of her in the House. “Is this the way the government Chief Whip behaves in the House?” he asked. The efforts of AP State Human Resource Development Minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao, Women Empowerment Minister Peethala Sujatha and TDP MLC P Samanthakamani to persuade Rajakumari went in vain. The Chief Whip staged a walkout after the heated argument with the Chair and the Opposition members. Her tenure as MLC is slated to end on March 29.
