On Friday, over 250 MDMK 250 party cadres along with leader Vaiko were detained in Vellore during a rally to Andhra Pradesh protesting against the massacre of 20 woodcutters from Tamil Nadu - 12 from Tiruvannamalai district, seven from Dharmapuri and one from Salem by the Andhra Pradesh police on charges of smuggling red sanders in the Chittoor forests on April 7.


Vaiko who was leading the rally to Chittoor District in AP, addressed his party workers near near Anna Kalaiarangam when the Tamil Nadu police intercepted him and his cadres near the Vellore Fort.


With the party members refusing to disperse, the police detained all the party members including Vaiko.
