NCST team to probe into the Chittoor police firing To ascertain the facts in Chittoor Police Firing where 20 people were killed, National Commission for Scheduled Tribes will be sending a team led by its vice chairman, Ravi Thakur to Chittoor in Andhra Pradesh.

To ascertain the facts in Chittoor Police Firing where 20 people were killed, National Commission for Scheduled Tribes will be sending a team led by its vice chairman, Ravi Thakur to Chittoor in Andhra Pradesh. In wake of the petition that has arised that the deceased were from Tamil Nadu’s tribal communities, the Commission has taken this decision.


NCST Chairman Rameshwar Oraon said that the team would visit the firing spot and hold discussions with government authorities. He also said that the Commission also sought a report from AP Government over the firing and the NCST team would be leaving in four days.


Earlier, National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) directed Andhra Pradesh to conduct a probe by a Judicial Magistrate in the firing and also to ensure names of all forest and police officials, who were on duty be submitted to the NHRC before April 22.
