Hyderabad: We predicted in our columns two days ago that ban on director Teja was imminent. As soon as Teja revealed about hiring all Telangana crew for his upcoming film “Hora Hori” exclusively to The Hans India and explained the reasons behind promoting Telangana-born talent, Andhra Pradesh Film Employees Federation has taken a serious note of his violation and now it has announced non-cooperation, which is almost equivalent to a ban on filmmaker Teja, which would impact the production of the film.
Apparently, in its notice issued to various trade bodies, including Telugu Film Producers’ Council, Chamber, directors, writers union and others, the body claimed that their 14,000 cine workers in 24 crafts would not ‘co-operate’ with director’s latest film. “We have announced non-co-operation against director Teja and issued a letter to all trade bodies in Tollywood to convey our decision.
Since majority of members of all our 24 unions ‘unanimously’ resolved not to extend cooperation since he has hired non-federation members and affected the livelihood of existing members,” says Rajeswar Reddy, general secretary, Andhra Pradesh Film Employees’ Federation. On curtailing freedom of a filmmaker to choose his crew that suits his budget and requirements, Reddy explains, “Teja can work with any talent of his choice but our 14,000 strong members will not participate in his latest film, that’s it.”
When contacted, director Teja admitted that cine workers federation has issued a non-cooperation notice, “I am shooting in Vizag and just got to know through my industry friends that the federation declared non-cooperation to me but I am determined to promote new talent and particularly hailing from Telangana. In fact, after the formation of new state and already Telangana Cine Workers body started functioning, AP federation has no jurisdiction to ban me in new state, so it doesn’t affect me much and I’ll release my film in May as planned,” he added.
On receiving full support from TRS minister and TRS MLA and most Telangana film fraternity for his effort to promote local workers at the risk of his film getting stuck, “I got a call from TRS minister appreciating my concern for local talent, I can’t divulge more. I have taken enough risks in my career, so I don’t mind taking one more to give break to Telangana talent,” he pointed out.
