Visakhapatnam: Union Minister for Science and Technology Y Sujana Chowdhary here on Saturday said the Union government would accord special status for Andhra Pradesh by June-end. The minister, after visiting Duddupalem village under Chodavaram mandal in the district, told reporters that the Centre was releasing funds to establish institutions and sanctioning projects which were incorporated in the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act. The process was being carried out in phases, he said.

He said though the State has a large number of educated youth, the employment opportunities were very few. In an effort to provide jobs to one and all, a new industrial policy was unveiled, he said. He claimed that the State government had made strides towards fulfilling its poll-eve promises. He cited laying of foundation for Petroleum University in Rajahmundry.

Petro Chemical and Petroleum Infrastructure Region (PCPIR) would also be launched. The government would make efforts to create awareness among the people who would be losing their lands for facilitating establishment of industries. He further said the Andhra Pradesh Industrial and Infrastructure Corporation (APIIC) had allotted 800 acres of land in Anakapalle for establishment of industries.
