Hyderabad: Telugu Desam Party (TDP) president N Chandrababu Naidu is all set to get elected unanimously as the first President of the party’s national committee as no other contestant filed nomination for the top post in the party. Returning officer K Venkat Rao said he had received 30 sets of nomination papers supported by 60 party leaders in support of Naidu on Thursday.

The nominations have been scrutinised and accepted all the applications are in order. Since there was no other contestant, this has paved way to elevate the TDP chief as the national president of the party which will be announced on Friday, on the last day of the party’s annual meet – Mahanadu. Naidu will be authorised to constitute the full fledged national committee, politburo as well as AP and Telangana committees.

The TDP issued notification inviting applications from the aspirants for the coveted post on the second day of Mahanadu, to shape up TDP as national party in the future. Earlier in the day, Telangana TDP election committee convener E Peddi Reddy said all active members in the party were eligible to file their nominations as per the party’s constitution. The deadline for the scrutinisation and withdrawal of the applications was till Thursday evening.

Meanwhile, Andhra Pradesh Finance Minister Yanamala Ramakrishnudu said giving TDP the shape of a national party was a key resolution of the day. Speaking to media on the sidelines of on the second day of the 34th Mahanadu here at Gandipet, he said that the resolution would bring a new change in the party, which is all set to expand its wings to other States.

Expressing confidence that the party would come into power in Telangana during 2019 Assembly elections, he said new change had been brought around following the vision of the party chief and Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu. He said the constitution of the national committee would be taken up following the resolution of making the TDP as a national party.

Transport Minister Sidda Raghava Rao and Deputy Chief Minister Ch Nimmakayala China Rajappa said that the move to make the TDP a national political party would help the party explore greener pastures in other States. Stating that every hard working activist of the party was being suitably rewarded and was getting recognised by the party, they said it was the time that the party should also play key role in the national politics.
