Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Saturday laid the foundation stone for the new capital city, Amaravathi, near Tullur in Guntur district.

The ceremony for the new capital began around 3 am in the presence of Priests. Later, Chandrababu and his wife Bhuvaneswari performed the 'Bhoomi Puja' and laid the foundation stone at 8.49 am amidst vedic chants at Mandam village on the city outskirts near Krishna river bund.

Union ministers Nirmala Sitaraman, Sujana Chowdhary, AP assembly speaker Kodela Sivaprasad Rao, state ministers Ganta Srinivasa Rao, Narayana, Kamineni Srinivas, Devineni Uma Maheshwar Rao and Kamineni Srinivas Rao, Manikyala Rao, Devineni Umamaheshwara Rao, MLAs Bala Krishna, MPS Rayapati Samba Sivarao, Maganti Babu, Galla Jayadev and Guntur collector Kantilal Dande took part in the Bhoomi Puja.
