As the tenure of present BJP president K Haribabu is coming to an end, former Union Minister and BJP leader Purandeswari and BJP MLC Somu Veerraju are in the run for the president post for the BJP unit in Andhra Pradesh.
Party sources reveal that while Purandeswari joined BJP recently, Somu Veerraju has been associated with BJP from the beginning, but Purandeswari's popularity among the influential community and national BJP leaders gives her an edge over Veerraju. But with both the leaders being critical against the TDP government, the chances of a split in TDP-BJP alliance are high if either one of them is made the president.
