Koil Alwar Thirumanjanam performed with religious fervour

The religious ceremony of Koil Alwar Thirumanjanam was performed with religious fervour in Tirumala on Tuesday before the Srivari temple gets ready for the mega religious event of Vaikunta Ekadasi which falls on December 21.

Tirumala: The religious ceremony of Koil Alwar Thirumanjanam was performed with religious fervour in Tirumala on Tuesday before the Srivari temple gets ready for the mega religious event of Vaikunta Ekadasi which falls on December 21.

On the whole, Koil Alwar Thirumanjanam is a purification ceremony of sanctum sanctorum and temple premises by devotees.

During the ceremony, all the deities and other articles were removed from sanctum sanctorum and cleansed while the presiding deity is covered with a water-proof covering. The entire Garbha Griham, including floors, ceilings and walls, sub-shrines inside the sanctum, puja articles were cleaned with water and Thirumanjanam was smeared, which acts as a disinfectant.

The covering of the main deity was then removed and the deities, deepam and other articles are replaced inside which was followed by rendering of special pujas and Naivedyams to the presiding deity. Later, the devotees were allowed for darshan.

TTD Chairman Ch Krishnamurthy, EO D Sambasiva Rao, Tirumala JEO KS Sreenivasa Raju, Temple Deputy EO Chinnamgari Ramana, TTD board members G Bhanuprakash Reddy, DP Ananth and employees took part in the mass cleansing of temple festival which lasted for about three hours in the morning.
