Kurnool: District Collector Ch Vijaymohan on Wednesday asked officials to prepare an action plan by January 13 to prevent shortage of drinking water going round villages during the Janmabhoomi programme beginning on January 2.
Reviewing the action plan with the RWS officials, the Collector revealed that proposals costing Rs 11.40 crore have been submitted to the government for providing drinking water till June next year, in view of the severe rainfall deficit.
He wanted officials to initiate steps to ensure that people did not face any hardship in securing drinking water by undertaking repairs of hand pumps and pipelines, replacing spare parts and inspecting water supply schemes.
The burnt motors should be replaced in 48 hours, the Collector stressed. If required small motors should be kept ready as an additional measure.
Vijaymohan asked officials to complete the work of summer storage tanks in view of the KC Canal receiving water supply.
The canal water should be utilised for filling local tanks and the agriculture bore wells in villages identified for providing water supply to those which lack storage facilities.
He directed the RWS engineers to install 10,000 bore wells in 432 villages under Nandyal municipality and provide pipeline connections so as to prevent any hardship to the people.
The Collector wanted control rooms to set up in every mandal office for making people aware of water supply problems.
He stated that Rs 510 lakh has been spent to take up water schemes in 425 schools across the district, while asking officials to find out whether the schemes could ensure supply to the needy villages.
Among those present at the meeting were RWS Superintending Engineer Prasad, EEs Muralidhar, Nageswara Rao, besides several DEs and AEs.
