Chittoor: Deputy Mayor R Subri said that Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu is committed to develop Chittoor as a model city under a pilot project. He assured the gathering that all the needs of eligible beneficiaries would be met in the third phase of the Janmabhoomi-Mana Vooru programme. He said that the State government would sanction house sites, white ration cards and permanent houses for all eligible persons.

Participating as a chief guest in the Janmabhoomi programme held at Sanjay Gandhi Nagar here on Monday,Subri said that he has been relentlessly trying to solve the issues of the city residents with the active cooperation of corporation officials. He recalled that the then Mayor K Anuradha and her husband K Mohan, who were murdered by their own kin, had proposed several initiatives for city development for making it a model one. “We are committed to fulfil their plans,” he added. The Deputy Mayor said that the municipal council has decided to name corporation building after Katari couple as a token of their great service for the development of the city.

He gave a call to residents to extend cooperation for city development by remitting their property tax regularly to the Chittoor Municipal Corporation. TDP State Secretary B N Rajasimhulu said that the TDP government is committed to resolve the drinking water shortage in the city. “The Chief Minister has given green signal to divert water from the Handri Neeva project to Chittoor through NTR Jalasayam as a permanent solution for drinking water crisis. He felt the need for laying underground drainage system in the city. TDP district general secretary P Nani regretted that the YSRCP district leaders were spreading false campaign against the Janmabhoomi programme and the Chief Minister.

Chittoor Municipal Corporation Commissioner Bhaskara Rao said that all the representations received in the Janmabhoomi programme would be computerised as per the instructions of the District Collector and action would be taken accordingly. He said that priority has been given to supply drinking water to the slum areas through hired water tankers.

The residents of the division have expressed anger over the lapses of the State government in attending their grievances. A woman, Surya Bee, alleged that officials have failed to issue a ration card even though she applied for it on several occasions in different meetings. Anuradha, a resident of the Pensioners Colony came down heavily on corporation officials for not clearing the stagnated water in drains for the last three months.
