Hyderabad: Even after the Central government had taken serious note and raised the issue of deportation of Indian students from the United State of America, the saga of deportation continues. Six Telugu students have been deported from New York to Hyderabad who reached here past midnight on Sunday.

The deported students decried that even after producing valid visas, they were detained by the immigration officials at the airport and were interrogated for about four hours. They refused to divulge personal details to the media.

While there is no official figure, it is estimated that close to 150 students were deported from the US in the last one month. The issue surfaced as 14 students were deported after three days in jail recently. It emerged that the universities where they got admissions were black-listed by the US authorities.

In a press statement released recently, the US embassy said, “The Embassy is aware of reports that some students bound to two California schools were denied entry by Customs and Border Protection. We regret the impact this may have on certain students and their families.”
