Say govt trying to bring in new regulations in the name of Agriculture Protection Zones Stage protest at CRDA office

Guntur: CPI (M) and YSRCP activists staged a protest along with villagers of Thadikonda and Amaravati at the CRDA office here on Thursday.

Addressing participants at the CRDA office in Thulluru, CPM district secretary Pashyam Rama Rao denounced the government for trying to bring in new regulations in the name of Agriculture Protection Zones. He said that construction activity in lands in 35 mandals had been barred in the name of protecting the agriculture zones.

He said that regulations suggest banning of construction activity for 35 years in the name of green belt. These regulations were unjustified and aimed at centralising all development activity in one region and against the spirit of the Constitution. He said that the government was unilaterally deciding everything and not taking into confidence the opposition parties and the people's representatives.

Rama Rao said that the government was acting in haste and not giving time to farmers to ventilate their grievances. He demanded the government to extend the date for expressing views and objections up to March 31. YSRCP city president Lella Appireddi opposed corporatisation of farm lands.

He demanded that the master plan be translated into Telugu and be made available to all people. In the absence of officials in CRDA office, the protesters pasted a copy of memorandum on the notice board of CRDA office.
