Parks in the town are in a pitiable condition as the municipal administration is not maintaining them properly. Children, elderly people and others, who wanted to spend their free time in parks, have been deprived of enjoyment as they have become dens for anti-social elements.

The town with three lakh people and was growing rapidly in the past few years, but the municipal governing body was not in a position to provide basic amenities as per the growing population.

As per official records, there are 30 parks in the town, but none of them is in a good condition. Playing equipment like sliders, see-saws, cradles and water fountains are damaged and no security guard was posted there to look after the parks and to prevent the entry of rogues.

Gamblers are occupying the broken benches in the parks and playing cards. While drunkards and rogues, too, are occupying the park. Hence, the people are scared to enter the parks. Prakasam Park, which is situated opposite municipal office, is also lying in a bad condition.

According to sources, the municipal administration is not taking measures to develop the parks. The iron equipment in the parks was stolen by miscreants and sold at scrap shops, it is learnt. K Anjali, a Class VII student of Balajinagar, said: “We don’t have parks here. If we want relaxation, we have to watch a movie”.

Municipal chairman P Ramakrishna said: “We visited parks recently and found them in a pitiable condition. We have decided to give a facelift to all the parks and would allocate funds in the ensuing budget for their development”.
