Jangareddigudem/Polavaram: An uneasy calm prevailed in the Agency tracts of West Godavari district following the promulgation of prohibitory orders under Section-144 of CrPC and Section 30 of Police Act. The police announced that the prohibitory orders were in force in Polavaram Agency mandal in view of the prevailing law and order situation.

No outsider should enter into Chegondapalli, Ramayapeta, Devaragondi and Pydipaka villages which will get submerged under Polavaram Project, according to the police. Following the police action, people of Chegondapalli village in Polavaram mandal have obstructed the Polavaram project works.

They alleged that the government has disconnected power supply, drinking water supply and was depriving them of other basic amenities only to evacuate them from the village. They obstructed the trucks taking gravel to the project site in the village. The villagers complained that so far the government failed to provide the compensation that was demanded by them.

About 110 families are living in Chegondapalli village and for the last one week, they were deprived of drinking water, power supply and other facilities, the villagers pointed out. Meanwhile, the police registered a case against former legislator Tellam Balaraju and his followers when he entered the village.

Jangareddigudem DSP J Venkatarao said that in view of the prevailing law and order situation in the Agency area, the prohibitory orders have been promulgated in the villages. He said a check-post was also set up between Pydipaka and Ramayyapeta villages. As per the directions of the higher officials, Section 30 of Police Act was promulgated and Mukkanti, Mandal Executive Magistrate of Polavaram, ordered implementation of prohibitory orders under Section-144.

The DSP pointed out that the orders were in force for the last three days. Meanwhile, the YSRCP workers took out a rally in Jangareddigudem town on Monday, in protest against the government’s attitude towards the displaced people of Polavaram Project and foisting cases against party leader and former MLA Tellam Balaraju.

The YSRCP activists led by Balaraju reached Bose statue centre in the town in the morning and took out a massive rally to the RDO office. Later, they staged a dharna at the office. Party leaders Ganta Murali Ramakrishna, Taneti Vanita, Talari Venkatrao and others took part in the dharna. Subsequently, they submitted a memorandum to the RDO.

The YSRCP leaders alleged that the government has neglected the displaced families belonging to Chegondapalli, Ramayyapeta and Pydipaka villages.
