Gender equality must for women development: Shantha Sinha

Tirupati: Without gender equality women development is not possible, said Shantha Sinha, former Chairperson of National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) while speaking at the anniversary celebrations of Sri Padmavathi Mahila Viswa Vidyalayam (SPMVV) here on Tuesday.

Seeking the women to break their silence, she said unless they came out and expresses their voice they cannot achieve progress. In this connection, Sinha urged the women to make effective use of the social media for exchanging their views to get solutions for their problems.

Emphasising on the need for men and women moving forward together, she said along with other sections of the society, every women should have equality and liberty. She lauded late N T Rama Rao, who was instrumental in setting up SPMVV, exclusively for the higher education of women, for his visionary approach on women `development.

The former NCPCR chief exhorted the women students to excel in the fields like space research, engineering, legal, sports, journalism and politics. Besides, she stressed on creating awareness about women empowerment among young women. She gave a call to young women to take inspiration from Savitribai Phule.

SPMVV Vice-Chancellor V Durga Bhavani said that university is in the forefront in providing quality education to women and she too recalled the contribution of late NT Rama Rao for setting up the university for only women. She told the women students to strive for fulfilling the aspiration of their parents. SPMVV Registrar P Vijayalakshmi, Students affairs Dean P Sujatha and others were present.
