Eluru: Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) officials arrested a sub-registrar while accepting a bribe of Rs 25,000 from a contractor at Chintalapudi on Wednesday. The ACB officials said they will produce him before ACB court on Thursday. According to ACB officials, Goli Sharath Reddy, a contractor from Eluru, has purchased land of Goli Lokeshwara Reddy under the jurisdiction of Chintalapudi Sub-Registrar office.

To get a registered document, he submitted papers to the Sub-Registrar on February 17. However, the Sub-Registrar Repalle Venkata Bala Gopalakrishna rejected the application claiming that papers were not in order and Sharat was making rounds to the office for the last 20 days.

Finally, Sharat again got in touch with the Sub-registrar through a mediator on Tuesday morning and, at last, came to an understanding that he will pay Rs 25,000 to him to get his document registered. The same evening, Sharat complained the matter to ACB DSP K Rajendra.

On the advice of ACB officials, Sharat handed over Rs 25,000 to sub registrar Gopalakrishna at his office. When the sub-registrar was trying to put the amount in his desk, ACB officials caught him red-handed and arrested him.
