Notorious smuggler nabbed
Gajulamandyam police on Wednesday arrested four red sanders smugglers and seized 24 red sanders logs and two cars from them. According to information reaching here, police party on suspicion stopped two cars at Athur crossroads, 20 km from here.
Chittoor: District police have arrested international red sanders smuggler Ajay Kumar (47) on Wednesday from a residence at Yedacherry in Calicut district in Kerala. Speaking to the media here, ASP (operations) V Ratna said that the accused was involved in smuggling of red sanders logs in Tamil Nadu along with another smuggler Thangaraj. The ASP said that Ajay Kumar has smuggled over 200 tonnes of red sanders logs to foreign countries and earned more than Rs 40 crore. She said that the accused has been involved in red sanders logs smuggling from 2011 and 10 cases were registered against him at various police stations in Chittoor district. DSP Lakshmi Naidu, Rural CI Chandrasekhar and other police personnel were present.
Red sanders logs worth `25 lakh seized; four nabbed
Tirupati: Gajulamandyam police on Wednesday arrested four red sanders smugglers and seized 24 red sanders logs and two cars from them. According to information reaching here, police party on suspicion stopped two cars at Athur crossroads, 20 km from here. Police found red sanders logs worth Rs 25 lakh in two cars. The accused were smuggling red sanders logs to Tamil Nadu from Kodur. Police registered a case and took up investigation.
