Better facilities at branch libraries soon
He said that libraries have been providing books for students, who are preparing for competitive exams. He stated that students, who are not in a position to purchase competitive exam books, can avail them at library for reading purpose.
Chittoor: District Grandhalaya Samstha chairman Kannaiah Naidu said on Friday that the State government is committed to develop the branch libraries in a big way by creating infrastructure facilities and constructing buildings for them. Naidu stated that a proposal would be submitted to the government’s approval for construction of permanent buildings for branch libraries in the district.
Participating at a function organised in the head office of the District Central Library here, the chairman said that the readers should avail the facilities being provided in all the branch libraries across the district. He said that libraries have been providing books for students, who are preparing for competitive exams. He stated that students, who are not in a position to purchase competitive exam books, can avail them at library for reading purpose.
Naidu said that expensive competitive exam books were made available in all branch libraries after conducting a survey among students of various educational institutions in the district. He further said it was proposed to establish branch libraries in all the villages in a phased manner. “Management of District Central Library would come forward to construct the buildings for libraries if land is donated by the public,” he added.
Referring to the functioning of the book deposit centres in the district, the chairman said that the government was contemplating to hike the honorarium of organizers, who are running the book deposit centres as they were facing difficulties. He stated that District Collector Siddharth Jain has directed all the corporations and municipalities in the district to remit Rs 5 crore library cess dues to the District Central Library at the earliest.
The chairman assured of filling vacant posts in branch libraries once the government gives permission. District Grandhalaya Samstha secretary Rama, senior librarians Lalitha, Aruna, Vinay Kumar and others were present. Later, Naidu distributed the competitive books to the branch libraries.
