Visakhapatnam: Collector N Yuvaraj, who convened a meeting with the public representatives and village elders of Pudimadaka here on Thursday with regard to the laying of off shore pipeline work, has assured that all necessary help will be extended to the displaced persons on behalf of the government.

  • Laying of off shore pipeline

The Collector informed the meeting that this was the fifth meeting held so far and the laying of pipeline work is to be completed by April-end for which the villagers have to extend necessary help. He assured that a relief and rehabilitation package will be given to all the displaced families adding that a survey has already been conducted to assess the number of persons between the age group of 18 and 45 years in each family to provide suitable employment.

As per the survey report, it was identified that there are 400 graduates and talks with major industries are going on to provide employment. The Collector informed that the State government has increased the earlier relief package of Rs 70,000 to Rs 1 lakh to each family and sought the cooperation of villagers to complete the pipeline work.

Yelamanchili MLA Panchakarla Ramesh Babu said that the off shore pipeline work was taken up only in the public interest and the government will provide relief package with employment to the displaced families without any injustice. He asked the village elders attended the meeting to hold a similar meeting in their village and to arrive at a decision before Sunday so the pipeline work will commence from Monday onwards.

However, the village leaders Nageswara Rao, Appa Rao and Sriram announced that they are not willing to take the relief package declared by the government. They demanded employment and construction of a fishing jetty at Pudimadaka. TDP leader Lalam Bhaskar Rao asked the villagers to discuss the issue collectively before coming to a decision and cooperate.

Joint Collector J Nivas, SP Koya Praveen, APIIC Zonal Manager Yathirajulu, APIIC officials Y Narasimha Rao and Sattibabu, Anakapalli RDO Padmavathi, Narsipatnam ASP Rastogi and joint Director of Fisheries Koteswara Rao were present.
