The TDP politburo decided to organise Mahanadu in Tirupati from May 27 to 29 to discuss drought conditions and development programmes in the State, in its politburo meeting held here on Tuesday.

The politburo is also said to be discussing the stand to be adopted by the State government on special status. It is also preparing an action plan to rectify the lapses in AP Reorganisation Act.
As the Opposition parties started criticising the TDP government over denial of special status, the TDP is planning to bring pressure on the Central government. In addition, the TDP politburo discussed the prevailing drought conditions in the State and an action plan to tackle drinking water crisis. It also discussed the death toll due to severe heat wave.
Giving the details of politburo meeting, TDP State president Kala Venkata Rao said Rs 41 crore was allotted to municipalities to meet the drinking water needs of people. He said the government has decided to release Rs 100 crore towards drinking water in rural areas and Rs 15 crore for fodder and planning to release another 17 crore.
The TDP State president said the government has been supplying drinking water to 850 villages through tankers.He said taking into consideration the prevailing heat wave, the government had set up 11,000 drinking water kiosks, 6,000 shelters and started distributing drinking water and buttermilk packets.
Kala Venkata Rao said a three-member committee was appointed to monitor the drinking water supply and the committee will monitor the situation in coordination with district in-charge Minister. The three-member committee will tour drought-hit areas and monitor the situation.
