Hyderabad: The Akhil Bharathiya Vidyarthi Parishath (ABVP) demanded a CBI inquiry into the conduct of leaders of Ambedkar Student Association (ASA) who constituted the outfit just before the death of University of Hyderabad (UoH) research scholar Rohith Vemula.

Speaking to the media here on Saturday, ABVP leaders said the suicide of Rohit was due to instigation and provocation by persons near and dear to him. They also demanded a CBI inquiry into the affairs of the university Joint Action Committee (JAC).

The call records of leaders of JAC including that of Zuhail, Venkatesh Chouhan, Arpita Jaya, Donta Prashant, Gummadi Prabhakar, Tathagata Sengupta, KY Ratnam and K Laxminarayana needed to be examined to find out with whom they were in touch on a daily basis, they said.

It was alleged that Koppula Raju of the Congress was secretly arranging funds from the Congress so that the agitation went on. The accounts of JAC as well as the bank accounts of its leaders and the faculty associated with them needed to be examined to ensure the sources of funding for the agitation, the ABVP leaders demanded.

UoH ABVP president K Palsaniya, ABVP in-charge Susheel, ABVP general secretary Kumar Nayak, Hyderabad City ABVP joint secretary Kiran Gundala, ABVP Central Working Committee member Harita and ABVP member Bhanu Pratap Singh participated in the press meet.
