Somandepalle (Anantapur): District Ministers Palle Raghunatha Reddy and Paritala Sunitha and District Collector Kona Sasidhar participated in seed distribution at various places in the district on Thursday. IT and Information Minister Palle Raghunatha Reddy while participating in distribution programme at Somandepalle mandal said that the district stood on top in groundnut production in south India by producing groundnut in 7.5 lakh acres.

The Minister distributed coupons to farmers for picking up the seed from the counters. He said that the district administration did a lot of homework to prevent awkward situations relating to groundnut seed supply. He said that 2.50 lakh tonnes of seed was already positioned in the mandals and more would be arriving depending on the requirement.

He also spoke of government measures to make rain guns available which would be used as a life saving irrigation method on parched lands. Civil Supplies Minister Paritala Sunitha also participated in seed distribution at several places in the district including Ramagiri, C K Palle and Anantapur Market Yard.

Speaking on the occasion she said that the district administration was implementing the unique system of seed distribution by linking Aadhaar to it apart from bio-metric system of distribution. She also said that the cost of each groundnut bag was Rs 2,250 in the open market and the same was made available at Rs 1,500 per bag by extending a subsidy of Rs 750 on each bag.

Responding to farmers request to give 5 bags each, she said that she would take their request to the Chief Minister's attention. District Collector Kona Sasidhar said that the bio-metric system was introduced to prevent diversion of seed to the black market.
