Vizianagaram: After a prolonged struggle, the Vizianagaram Municipal Council has finally agreed to allot land to the family of noted writer and social reformer Gurajada Apparao. In fact, the Ministry of Tourism and Culture has proposed to construct a memorial building adjacent to the house of Gurajada Apparao, where the great grandsons are living in a house.

In a form of ex gratia, a government has offered land at some other place in the town to the family of the great poet. But the municipal council refused to give the land to Venkata Prasad and Indira who are heirs of Gurajada Apparao. The decision has irked the residents of the town and even the several organisations have been appealing to the municipality to allot land to the family.

With this, the municipal council has agreed to give 45 cents of land in Santhapeta to the family. Municipal chairman Prasadula Ramakrishna said: “We have high regard for the great poet Gurajada and his family. We will protect the interests of the family and honour the emotions of the family.”
