Eluru: Additional Medical Officer of the District Medical and Health Office P Umadevi conducted an enquiry on the charges of office personnel demanding the bribe for transfers and leaves from the employees on Tuesday. A trainee ANM K Susheela is working on outsourcing in Primary Health Centre at Pedapadu village. She applied for leave due to illness from April 25 to December 2 last year.

To sanction the leave, the Medical and Health office staff took Rs 20,000 from her. In this regard, a complaint was received by Medical and Health Principal Secretary Poonam Malakondaiah. The complainant, G Venkateswarlu, alleged that the Medical and Health Department staff were demanding money even to sanction leaves.

Reacting to the complaint, the Principal Secretary directed Regional Director of Rajahmundry Dr Shalini to send a report in this matter. Following these directions, the District Medical and Health Additional Medical Officer Umadevi started enquiry at the office. She recorded the statements of accused Superintendent Stalin Vijayakumar and Senior Assistant Shivaji Ganesh.

She also recorded the statement of the victim, Pedapadu ANM K Susheela. In her statement, Susheela said that she did not give any amount to the staff. Speaking on the occasion, Umadevi said the report would be submitted to Regional Director Shalini for further action.
