Vizianagaram: A story, which was published in The Hans India dated May 15, has driven the MLC and farmers of YSR Kadapa district to travel to Vizianagaram to learn something here and in order to enhance their income.

The Hans India recently published a story with headline-‘Making of mango jelly sweetens the lives of the farmers in Vizianagaram.’ After reading the news, Kadapa MLC K Chengalrayudu organised a meet with the farmers in that area and encouraged them to learn the skills by visiting the units at Vizianagaram. On Tuesday, the MLC along with 15 farmers visited Vizianagaram. The team visited Beemali village in L Kota mandal and came to know how they are making mango jelly by using low quality fruits. Vizianagaram district is one of the largest producers of mangoes in the entire State.

The good quality fruits like Cherukurasalu, Suvarnarekha and Banginapalli have huge demand and the fruits which have less demand are being used for jelly making. Chengalrayudu said that they have been producing large quantity of fruits but they are unable to sell the entire product in market as the consumers are not interested to buy the low quality product.

He said, “After watching this, we want to convert the low quality mangoes into jelly and will sell the same in the market. We will take two experts from this area to our district to train our farmers in making of this jelly.” “We will form a women society and will seek the support of government and bankers. The jelly is available here for Rs 100 per kg but we are purchasing the same at Rs 250 per kg in our areas,” he added. “So we hope that our farmers can earn something from the mangoes, which are being dumped on roads as they have no demand in market,” he said.
