Kadapa: Humanity will have to face grave threats if it fails to maintain environmental balance, warned M Vivekananda Reddy, president of the District Intellectuals’ Forum, here on Sunday.

Addressing an awareness programme for students and residents of Machupalli, Uggayipalli, Chalamareddypalli in connection with the World Environment Day at N Pushpagiri Residential Public School, Reddy stated that only students and people could ensure environmental protection and not laws.

He sought to know as to how meat of animals was reaching markets despite laws to prevent killing of deer, peacocks and rabbits.

Reddy attributed loss of environmental balance to not properly cleaning waste products and water and recycling them. He pointed out that environmental protection would be possible only when there is an adequate public awareness. He demanded stringent punishment of some VIPs accused of killing endangered species.

Some students while addressing a gathering assured to take up similar awareness programmes for tribals. School principal Harikrishna administered pledge to the audience to protect the environment. Among those present were dean Siva Kumar, Babul Reddy.
