Srikakulam: A married woman staged a protest in front of her in-laws’ house at Palasa town on Sunday, alleging harassment by her husband and in-laws.

Sowmya of Vizianagaram town was married to M Chiranjivi Santosh of Palasa on June 7, 2015. Later, they went to Bengaluru as they were working as software engineers there.

After two months, Sowmya returned to her parents’ place due toalleged harassment by her husband.

A series of discussions were going on between elders of both families but the issue was not settled. “I lodged a complaint with women police station in Srikakulam. But my husband did not attend for counseling at the police station,” Sowmya alleged.

She launched agitation in front of her in-laws’ house by demanding her husband to join conjugal life with her. She alleged that at the instance of her in-laws, her husband had been harassing her ever since they went to Bengaluru.

When contacted, DSP of women police station V Subramanyam said that local police would deal it initially.

Palasa town Sub-Inspector Srirammurthy said they would take action, if the aggrieved woman lodges a complaint.
