Konathala told The Hans India that as the citizen of the region and pained by the continued neglect, he was forced to send a representation to the Governor on behalf of one crore people of the Uttarandhra region.

He informed that the Andhra Pradesh unit of BJP has quoted in its election manifesto that Special Status would be given to the State for 10 years with tax incentives, special financial package for backward areas of Uttarandhra and Rayalaseema and the Central government would bear the revenue deficit of the bifurcated State if it comes to power.

Ramakrishna stated that the financial allocation in these two years was a mere Rs 300 crore for Uttarandhra under special financial package.
The former Minister alleged that the people of this backward region were distressed and losing faith in the democratic setup as no new projects were taken up in the region except holding international summits in the past two years.

Quoting the 13th Schedule of the AP Reorganisation Act, which promised Tribal University separate railway zone for Vizag, Greenfield crude oil refinery petro-chemical complex and Vizag-Chennai Industrial Corridor but none of them have been fulfilled.

He urged the Governor to direct the Centre and the State governments to form a Special Authority to implement special financial package for Uttarandhra with periodic monitoring by political parties and stake holders setting up a Regional Council with statutory powers for the all-round development of the region ensuring reservations to locals in education as well as in employment, completion of all the pending irrigation projects including Uttarandhra Sujala Sravanthi preventing Odisha from going ahead with illegal irrigation projects sanctioning a separate railway zone for Vizag cancellation of all the mining licences including bauxite and to draft an action plan to reduce pollution in the region.

Reiterating that Special Status is the only yardstick to put Andhra Pradesh on the development path and to help bail out from financial crisis, Ramakrishna urged the Governor to take initiative of directing the Centre in this regard.
