Eluru: Andhra Pradesh Koulu Rythula Sangham (APKRS) General Secretary P Jamalaiah demanded that the government supply seeds free of cost to tenant farmers who lost the nurseries due to heavy rains in the State.

He along with APKRS leaders visited Kaikaram, Narayanapuram and Chebrole villages in Unguturu mandal on Thursday and checked the damaged seedlings and nurseries of the tenant farmers.

The General Secretary said that the tenant farmers had invested Rs 3,000 per acre. However, he stated that due to inundation, farmers were incurring loss in thousands of acres. He said that due to the incessant rains for the last four days, the nurseries and seedlings had damaged in the tenancy lands.

THe APKRS district Secretary, K Srinivas, Unguturu mandal Secretary Korni Apparao and others enquired the tenant farmers about the loss due to the rains.

Addressing a media conference at Anne Bhavan in Powerpeta here on Thursday, the APKRS secretary has said that the State Level Bankers meeting has targeted to sanction Rs 60,00 crore as crop loans in the district. He pointed out that 70 percent agriculture lands are cultivated by 20 lakh tenant farmers in the State.

He demanded that the government sanction crop loans in the ratio of the cultivable extent by tenant farmers. According to this ratio, the bankers have to sanction 42,000 crore to tenant farmers out of the total outlay of Rs 60,000 crore, he added.

He also demanded that the government sanction the loan eligibility cards to the farmers as per the New Act. He stated that as per the Act, there is no need of land owners’ permission and their pattadar passbooks to sanction loans to tenant farmers.

He alleged that Agriculture Commissioner Dhanunjay Reddy had violated the Act by not issuing the cards to the tenant farmers on the pretext that the land owners did not give their consent.

He also demanded the government to implement the crop insurance to the tenant farmers. APKRS Secretary K Srinivas also participated.
