Penukonda (Anantapur): Addressing the participants in a dharna organised as part of the party’s ‘Porubata’ programme here on Saturday, APCC president N Raghuveera Reddy accused the Telugu Desam Party leaders of amassing wealth, by resorting to corrupt practices, and overlooking the people’s problems.

Reddy alleged that the TDP leaders were snatching lands allotted to the poor and becoming rich virtually overnight. ‘If the TDP corrupt practices continue for three more years,’ the APCC chief warned, ‘Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu was sure to be voted out by the people in 2019’.

He contended that the ruling party leaders were not even leaving the rice allotted to the poor misusing the biometric system, while wondering whether the biometric system was working at all.

Reddy accused the TDP government of failing to come to the rescue of the families of 200 farmers, who committed suicide across the State. ‘It failed to launch the Handri-Neeva project which should have been completed by 2015’. He alleged that only 10 to 20 per cent of groundnut seeds were being distributed to farmers, as against the requirement of 60-70
quintals.

The Congress leader described the government’s Ramzan Tohfa, being hyped by the ruling party, as ‘topi’, while claiming that the Congress government had extended similar assistance to the poor throughout a year, providing nine items. Earlier, the APCC president submitted a memorandum to RDO Ramamurthy.

The Congress activists took out a rally in the town and staged dharna near the Revenue Divisional office. Constituency-level party leaders took part in the protest programme. Earlier, Raghuveera Reddy went round the Gollapalli reservoir of the Handri Neeva project.

He alleged that the work was of inferior quality, after chatting with the contractor. Reddy told the media that the work was going on at a slow pace. He promised to be a ‘watch dog’ by visiting the irrigation projects being taken by the
Telugu Desam government.
